The exhibition showcases a collective body of original artworks of the Castrillo family, featuring canvas-printed illustrations of the late Eduardo Castrillo, an award-winning “nationalist” and avant-garde Filipino sculptor; and original brass sculptures of Mr. Castrillo’s three children, sons Mierro and Nixxio Castrillo; and daughter Ovvian Castrillo-Hill. The occasion also marked the first-ever group art show of this multi-talented family of sculptors. The family was represented by Ms. Castrillo-Hill, a Filipina-Canadian artist based in Fort St. John, B.C., whose recently-concluded work include a signature commission for the new building of the Philippine Stock Exchange in Bonifacio Global City.

A book launch of Ms. Castrillo-Hill’s “Goddess in the Mirror: A Book of Self-Discovery for Filipino Women the World Over” immediately followed the opening of the exhibition. This book of personal experiences and reflections, and female empowerment was written with the Filipina in mind, serving as a reminder for every woman to “find her voice” and acknowledge her various roles in a rapidly evolving society.
