VANCOUVER PCG JOINS MEETING WITH BC MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE
Philippine Consulate officials join their counterparts from Mexico, Guatemala and Jamaica in discussing the protection of seasonal agricultural workers and temporary workers in B.C. at a meeting hosted by the Mexican Consulate General on 02 March 2018.
03 March 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver joined Consular and Labor officials from Mexico, Guatemala and Jamaica in a meeting at the Mexican Consulate General on 02 March 2018, to discuss the protection of their agricultural workers in B.C. The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture of B.C. Lana Popham.
The meeting covered a host of issues including housing, health, working conditions and safety, as they affected citizens of the four countries working in farms across B.C.

Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham, SAWP Coordinator Ramon Moreno, Consul General Berenice Diaz Ceballos of Mexico, Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer, SAWP Housing Coordinator Hugo Velazquez, Deputy Chief Liaison Officer of Jamaica Donna Adams, and POLO-Vancouver Labor Assistant Violeta Buenaventura.
Overall, the meeting was beneficial in terms of providing an avenue for the Consulates to share similar experiences, obtain updates from government, brainstorm possible solutions and establish the needed linkages.
