National Privacy Commission Conducts Data Privacy Session at Vancouver PCG

Vancouver, 20 November 2017 – The personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver attended a lecture on R.A. 10173 known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, conducted by Mr. Raymund E. Liboro, Commissioner and Chairman of the National Privacy Commission of the Philippines (NPC) at the Consulate on 14 November 2017. 

Consul General Neil Ferrer welcomed and expressed gratitude to Commissioner Liboro for sharing his knowledge and expertise on data privacy and protection.  Commissioner Liboro introduced the NPC and its mandate, i.e., to establish a regulatory environment that ensures accountability in the processing of personal data, and build a culture of privacy that enables and upholds the right to privacy and supports free flow of information.  PCG personnel learned about the different key concepts and principles of data protection, data privacy accountability and compliance.  Atty. Rashy Rellosa, NPC Spokesperson, also spoke on the rights of data subjects as well as responsibilities of organizations who are recipients of the former’s personal details. END
