29 June 2017 –A Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar for temporary foreign workers (TFWs) was jointly conducted by Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) on 23 June 2017 in Vancouver.

Vice Consul Cham Guevara presented the Consulate’s various consular services, cultural and gender and development programs, overseas voting registration, and other Consulate-led initiatives while POLO representative, Ms. Violeta Buenaventura updated the audience on the latest development on labor services and overseas exit clearances (OECs), and the need for TFWs to update their respective OWWA membership contributions.

Ms. Aireen Luney and Ms. Athena Adan, representatives of the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training - B.C. Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP), spoke on the BCPNP’s promotion strategies, and trends and opportunities impacting the skills immigration program. The BCPNP is way for high-demand foreign workers and experienced entrepreneurs to gain permanent residency in B.C., offering three ways to become a permanent resident in B.C. Each pathway contains different categories that an applicant can apply under, depending on their National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level, job, or international student status.

The seminar was attended by TFWs working in agricultural farms from Pitt Meadows and Chilliwack, and representatives from worker settlement and immigrant settlement agencies. END
