Filipino designers join 2017 Vancouver Fashion Week
27 March 2017 – The 2017 Vancouver Fashion Week, a fashion industry event held annually since 2001 to showcase the talents of designers from around the globe, opened on 20 March 2017, with two Manila-based fashion houses, Karimadon and Gabbie Sarenas, representing the Philippines.
Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer attended the event where he met Mr. Richard Go and Ms. Josie Go, owners of Karimadon, and its head designer, Ms. Embi Nicolas. Consul General Ferrer also met Mr. Jamal Abdourahman, founder and prime mover of Vancouver Fashion Week.
Karimadon presented its designs on 21 March while Ms. Gabbie Sarenas showcased her designs from her eponymous line of clothing on 23 March.
Vancouver Fashion Week, founded by Mr. Abdourahman in 2001, is considered one of the fastest growing fashion events and the only one in the fashion industry that actively seeks to showcase international award-winning designers from over 25 global fashion capitals. For the 2017 Fall/Winter edition, the line-up includes local designers as well as international brands from France, Spain, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Philippines, China, the United States, Germany, Luxembourg.
