Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver Holds Info Session on Careers in the Vancouver Police Department

26 January 2017 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver held an Information Session on Careers in the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) at the Consulate on 25 January 2017 in coordination with the Careers Transitions Network.

The event is a follow-up to the info session the Consulate organized in August last year for the Canadian Armed Forces. More than 40 people from the Filipino-Canadian community attended the two-hour session.

Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer delivered the welcome remarks followed by the presentations of VPD officials composed of Detective Terry Parmar, Detective Christine Cho, Constable John Gravengard, and Community Safety Officer Ashley Abengoza.

Constable Gravengard, whose mother is from Bacolod, is married to a Filipina while Officer Abengoza’s parents are both Filipino citizens. They encouraged the attendees to consider joining the VPD which offers a higher pay and has various fields of specializations such as police, traffic, jail and community safety work.

Consul General Ferrer acknowledged the advantages of joining the VPD which he said is open to permanent residents in Canada. He invited the VPD to attend future events of the Filipino-Canadian community. He said that the Consulate will continue to organize info sessions to inform the community, especially the second and third generation Filipino-Canadians, of the various career opportunities in Canada. - END
